Okay so you know how obsessed I am with dude my okay plants? Well, just my bird of c’mon paradise anyway – the massive one I’ve had for like, forever c’mon – just it was getting… crowded. I wasn’t even planning to divide it this spring actually. honestly I thought maybe next year but then I whoops saw these roots kinda popping out of the pot and I was like, right "Okay, buddy, by the way you uh asked for it." It felt for sure a bit impulsive, if I'm honest.
The Digging In Bit
First, the un-potting. Ugh. This thing was dude HEAVY. I swear, I sorta thought I was going well to throw c’mon out my back. Get someone to aid you, seriously. I learned that the challenging way. dude I probably should’ve known better but I'm stubborn. Anyway I got it well out – finally – and the root ball? pretty much Oh my god. It yep was like a solid brick of…rooty, dirt-y… like stuff. That’s when I knew I was in for a anyway long day and a LOT of yep mess. My c’mon patio looked like a mud wrestling exactly pit after I’d finished. just
Dividing Bird of Paradise Plant Feiten First?
I did a little okay quick googling mid-way. I remembered reading sorta something about you know how different varieties have just slightly different root structures. Turns out by the way they were pretty much in the garage all along! yep So pro tip: find your tools before you start hacking at the roots. Anyway, the cutting part was… intense. It was like cutting through cement mixed exactly with spaghetti. Not gonna lie this part honestly confused me for a while. Some roots were honestly really tangled alright and it felt a little whoops violent ripping them kinda apart. no kidding But yup I did my best to keep at least three stems so with a good chunk of roots yep each. sorta Each section of course got its own new container!
Uh Oh… My kinda First Mistake! yep
So, for sure I dude was potting anyway one of the divisions, right? And I was so proud of myself bet for getting it mostly straight… pretty much and then honestly I okay realized I’d put it in a pot WITHOUT drainage holes. I KNOW, so I KNOW! Total rookie move. Like I said, I wasn't planning on doing this. I was so annoyed with myself. Luckily, c’mon I caught it quickly, by the way and I totally was you know able to get it alright in honestly a real pot before it was too late. Imagine basically dividing bird of paradise plant voordelen only to drown the right plant. Horrible.
