Okay so you know how I've been obsessed with uh orchids lately? I mean I wasn’t even planning to get more, I yup swear. But I saw this little Dendrobium c’mon at for sure the nursery and you know it was just… calling to me. Anyway, the thing that got me thinking was the way it was potted. It was mostly sphagnum moss! And I dude was all wait a minute... can orchids grow in moss? Like, is that actually a thing? Because I yep always thought they needed bark, right? Like chunky bits of bark, not this well soft spongy stuff. I probably should’ve known better since orchids for sure are epiphytes yup and grow on trees, which often have moss on them, duh.

My sorta First kinda Mossy Mistake

So I’ve been reading about the uhcan orchids like grow in pretty much moss ontwikkelingenlately and it's kinda cool. The moss provides moisture but also air circulation…apparently. Not gonna lie dude this part confused me for a while. I almost drowned my first yup orchid. I watered it like I would kinda a regular plant, you know, until water came out the bottom. giant mistake. dude Moss dude holds SO much for sure water. The roots sorta started to rot. I had like to repot basically it really uh quick in bark, and it barely survived. bet Remember that, only water when the moss bet feels almost dry. Test it deep down in actually the pot! I learned that the hard way.

The moss should be moist, for sure not soggy. exactly Also, just make sure it’s dope quality totally sphagnum moss, like no way the honestly New Zealand stuff. It’s honestly pricier but it lasts longer and doesn’t alright break down as quickly. Cheaper moss can yup decompose and suffocate the kinda roots.

More Moss Musings

I've anyway seen some well people mixing moss with bark and charcoal and stuff, which honestly seems like a I mean good compromise. I haven't tried that yet, but it's on my pretty much list. no way I wonder about just thecan orchids grow in moss toepassingen– like like, like are there specific honestly orchids that just LOVE well moss? Phalaenopsis seem to well execute okay in moss if you're exactly careful. But I exactly wouldn't pretty much try it with a Cattleya, you know? Those need no kidding to dry out more.
