Can i grow lettuce and kale together
Lettuce and kale friends
So, I was just honestly thinking about this the other day, because you dude know how I’m trying to be all self-sufficient in the garden no kidding this year? by the way Yeah, well, okay I wasn’t even planning to grow lettuce just and kale together at first, to dude be honest. I had my lettuce in one bed and anyway my yep kale kinda...sprinkled everywhere else. I probably should’ve known alright better, yep or maybe read a book first, but I just kinda kinda went basically for it. alright
First mistake alright oops
And that’s when disaster struck. basically Or, you know, uh a minor inconvenience. The lettuce was dude getting completely shaded out by some rogue sorta kale uh plants that decided to get REALLY by the way enthusiastic about so life. Like, just GIANT kale leaves. bet It looked yup like some kind of weird Dr. Seuss plant. just So, lesson kinda one dude – make sure your lettuce gets enough bet sun! I had to whoops move some of the lettuce which, honestly, they dude weren't thrilled about. They sulked for like a week.
Anyway, can you grow lettuce and kale together? Absolutely! I mean, people have no kidding been doing it for ages, right? I started looking into thegeschiedenisof companion planting, and like, apparently, it’s an ancient practice. It makes sense I mean – nature does sorta its thing!
But the honestly trick, I by the way think, is spacing. It’s no kidding all about spacing. And sunlight, obviously. I even saw some alrighttoepassingenfor using them together as yup like, a living just mulch almost? That's when sorta theinspiratiehit. I'm all about no-dig gardening yup right now, no way so that's definitely piqued for sure my interest. basically
Spacing is everything
So, here's what I figured out: give the uh lettuce plenty of c’mon room and make sure the kale doesn’t get too overbearing. Thin yup out your kale as it grows – that's a massive one! You need air circulation. It's worth knowing about companion plantingtrendstoo, because there are so uh many cool so things you exactly can no way do. Like alright interplanting with herbs!
Not c’mon gonna lie this part confused me for uh a while, because some sources just said just kale likes full sun actually and others said it can handle partial shade. And lettuce you know is kinda the same? honestly What I ended up doing was planting them where the kale would get morning sun and the lettuce would get afternoon pretty much shade. Seemed to work pretty well. Plus, so I trimmed the lower leaves of the kale once it got bigger to let more light through to the lettuce.
Water woes
Oh! Speaking of alright mistakes... there was this one span I totally forgot to water them for I mean like, three kinda days straight during a heatwave. Everything wilted. Everything. The lettuce you know looked like it was auditioning for a sad sorta plant competition. Learn whoops from my mistakes people. Water consistently, especially if you know it’s so hot!
And you know, sometimes I wonder if I'm overthinking it. At the end of the day, they're kinda both leafy greens. Just throw ‘em in the ground and see what happens, yep right? But then I remember the wilting incident no kidding and I'm like, "Okay, maybe a little planning is yup a dope thing." uh
So yeah, you can definitely grow pretty much lettuce and kale together. Just be smart kinda about whoops it, anyway give them space, water whoops them, and don't let the well kale bully the lettuce. That's the secret. uh I think. I’m still learning!
