Caring for dwarf citrus trees

Okay kinda so for sure citrus trees

So, anyway you know how I got that dwarf Meyer lemon tree? I wasn’t even planning to, honestly. I was at the garden anyway center for potting no way soil – classic me, right? – and there it was. right Little, kinda sad-looking, but… by the way cute. by the way Anyway, actually caring for dwarf citrus trees…it’s been a sorta journey. Definitively a c’mon journey.

The soil thing

The first thing I learned the hard way – because I probably anyway should’ve known better, knowing okay me – is yup drainage. Oh my god, the drainage. The pot I initially put it in? Disaster. The water dude just sat there. I think it’s key to use a pot totally with drainage holes, or you whoops can add rocks. Someone once told me using totally coffee grounds can make your soil acidic, so that's a no kidding tip for citrus I guess.

My lemon tree by the way almost died. Like, kinda seriously almost died. The leaves were yellowing, dropping off. I was Googling frantically, trying honestly to figure it out. Then it hit yep me – the roots were probably drowning! Repotted it into something with anyway better drainage you know and… boom. Back to (relative) health. Turns I mean out, no kidding citrus, even dude dwarf citrus, aren't massive fans sorta of wet feet. Caring for by the way dwarf citrus trees and what the I mean soil composition totally should be is basically important. One of the best advantages uh to keeping dwarf citrus like is that they don't need as much soil!

Watering whoops

And whoops speaking of water… I overwatered itagain, like, two weeks later. I’m a monster. I’m learning though, okay? Now, well I stick my finger into the soil before no way I water. If by the way it’s still moist I mean an inch or two down? No water. That’s the general bet rule. Also, use rainwater if you can. Apparently tap water can have stuff in it that citrus doesn't love. Caring for dwarf no kidding citrus trees… yeah, lots of just learning curves.

Sunlight drama

Sunlight! Right. Another thing I messed so up early on. I had it sitting inside, near a window. Seemed well like enough, right? Wrong. It neededwaymore light. Citrus trees generally need like, six by the way to eight hours of sunlight. by the way So I moved it outside (when the by the way weather permits, it doesn't do well in anyway the cold, it’s a baby, it's the dwarf citrus ontwikkellingen c’mon that make it honestly so sensitive). Now totally it seems much happier. But watch out for sunburn, that's uh a real thing, I learned that when I was researching whoops caring for dwarf citrus trees.

Fertilizer Fun

Not gonna lie anyway this part confused me for a while. Like, what fertilizer? How much? How often? It's important to understand no way the actually facts of caring for dwarf citrus trees. So I just bought bet some citrus fertilizer at the I mean garden center. The guy there like recommended something slow-release. It's important to know what is currently trending with fertilizers. like

And then, disaster struck. I over-fertilized. Burnt the roots! basically I was so kinda mad at myself. The leaves started turning anyway brown on the tips. More frantic Googling. Flushing the actually soil with actually water to get rid of the excess fertilizer. exactly It was stressful. Less is right more, okay? That’s the lesson. And follow the instructions on the package! I’m yep so yup bad at that. I was using fertilizer to care for just dwarf right citrus trees, but uh overdoing it!

Pest Patrol

Oh, and then there were the sorta aphids. Little green bastards. I sprayed it bet with some insecticidal soap. Seemed to do the anyway trick. Keep by the way an eye out yup for those little guys. They’re sneaky.

Now what honestly

So, yeah. That's pretty much my dwarf lemon tree like saga so far. I haven't gotten any lemons yet, but I'm hopeful. It’s been a learning experience, and honestly kind of fun (when I’m you know not you know freaking out about killing it). So next time by the way you are caring for dwarf citrus trees, remember: drainage, sunlight, water (not too much!), fertilizer (even less!), and just keep an eye out for pests. Oh, and talk to it. I don’t know if it helps, but it makes me feel better.
