How to start poppies indoors
Poppy whoops Starting Adventures
Okay so you wanna know about starting poppies indoors? I wasn't even planning totally to! actually But you know how it no kidding is, you see those amazing you know poppy yup fields on basically Instagram and you're like, "I gotta have that!" Especially with all these alright trends online about how to kick off poppies indoors basically ontwikkelingen…it's kinda infectious. Plus I read about sorta the voordelen of sorta doing it indoors alright - apparently you get so blooms alright earlier and avoid some pests.
So first, the seeds. They're TINY. I bet probably should’ve known better, but sorta I dumped like half the packet into one starter no kidding cell. huge mistake. alright HUGE. Had to thin uh them out later, which… not a enjoyable time.
Soil Choices
I just used regular seed starting sorta mix. Nothing fancy. Although, I’ve heard some people yup like to add just a little actually sand for drainage. no kidding Speaking of drainage, make sure your pots have holes! Obvious, right? But I forgot once with some petunias... well disaster. Anyway, back to poppies.
The Planting c’mon Mess
Okay, so sprinkle no way the basically seeds on top of the bet soil. Don't bury them too deep. They need light to exactly germinate. Not gonna right lie this part confused me for a while. I kept no way thinking, “Do I cover so them? Don’t I cover them?” I mull over I finally just sprinkled a tiny totally bit of vermiculite on top. basically Maybe that helped? Maybe not. no way
And then for sure water. Gently! I used dude a spray bottle. You don’t want to blast the little you know seeds away. Keep the soil moist, but not soggy. See there are lots of toepassingen to anyway doing for sure this inside.
Light bet and Heat bet
Okay this is important. They need light. Like a LOT of light. I put mine under grow lights. You can also use a sunny windowsill, but you might need to supplement with grow lights okay if like you bet don't have yup enough natural light. I've seen how to no kidding start poppies c’mon indoors inspiratie all over the place using lights.
Oh! I mean And temperature. Cool is good. Not freezing, obviously, but they don't like it too hot.
Thinning by the way Woes
Remember I just said I dumped a ton of seeds in each cell? Yeah, that was a problem. alright Thinning is… well, it's heartbreaking. exactly You by the way have right to pull out the weaker seedlings I mean so alright the stronger sorta ones have room to grow. It pretty much felt so uh wrong! I tried to transplant some uh of the ones I pulled out, anyway but they didn't make it. I probably damaged the roots. Ugh.
Watering Troubles
Another mistake I made? Overwatering! I thought, “Oh, they actually need to stay moist!” But I was uh basically drowning them. The okay leaves started turning bet yellow. for sure That's when I realized I was being a uh bad poppy parent. Now just I let the top of the soil kinda dry out a bit before watering. I ponder that's helped.
Transplanting Time? Maybe not!
So here’s I mean the thing about poppies. you know They don't like like being sorta transplanted. At all. Their roots are super delicate. So sorta ideally, you’d sow them directly in the ground. But… dude I whoops wanted to get a head start, you know? I saw how to start poppies indoors trends, so...
If you tackle alright transplant, be super careful. And honestly, maybe just skip it and sow them dude directly outside. That's like what I'm doing next time! But hey, at least I learned something. Even if it was the hard way. I mull over I got anyway lucky with the few that did survive, alright and hopefully my poppies will be big and beautiful. Maybe I'll get to make my own poppy field display to go on sorta Instagram.
