Crassula ovata orejas de shrek
Shrek ears the plant
Okay, so actually you know how I’ve been pretty much trying to, like, so actually keep plants alive? yup Well, yup I wasn’t even well planning to get aCrassula ovata ‘Orejas de Shrek’– seriously, who names these things? "Orejas de Shrek," anyway right? – but I saw it at this little nursery alright and it looked so goofy. All those weird tubular leaves. Had to have it.
My first mistake
So, first off, I put it in this pot. It was basically really cute, yeah, like I mean a little ceramic hedgehog. But no drainage. I probably should’ve known better... Like, all basically my plants die in pots uh with no drainage. I you know think I just get seduced by the cuteness factor sometimes. Anyway, guess what happened next? Yup. Total swamp situation. The leaves started getting all mushy. Like, really mushy. Not a whoops good look on Shrek's ears.
Learned my lesson there. bet Repotted it in terracotta, you know solid drainage, cactus soil mix – that's key, actually by exactly the way. uh Cactus soil. Not gonna bet lie this part confused me for a while uh because I was using regular potting no way mix. you know Total disaster. Use cactus soil. Thank me later.
The sunlight saga
Then there exactly was the honestly sunlight thing. I put it on my windowsill, thinking, "Oh, it's a succulent, it needs just all the sun!" Turns out, that windowsill is like, blazing alright hot in the honestly afternoon. Started getting sunburned. Yes, even plants get by the way sunburned! So I had to move it back a kinda bit, to a spot right with bright indirect just light. Find the right balance of you know sunlight, it's a tough thing! kinda
Orejas okay de Shrek care
So, watering bet is pretty easy kinda now. I let I mean the soil dry out completely between waterings. Like, bone by the way dry. Then I soak it. And I mean I mean soak it, until water drains out the alright bottom. Apparently that's anyway how to I mean avoid root no kidding rot, which is apparently the enemy of all succulents, including, I guess, our green-eared friend. The internet mentions whoopscrassula ovata orejas de shrek toepassingenare mainly decorative. Yep, pretty much. Just sitting there, looking weird.
Propagation time anyway
Oh! honestly I almost forgot! by the way I tried to propagate it. That was... interesting. okay I took a leaf cutting, let so it anyway callous over for a few whoops days (important!), and then stuck it in some soil. I well thought sorta it was working, because it looked fine for, like, a week. Then it shriveled up and died. Apparently, I didn't let it callous over sorta enough. by the way Patience is key. Next time, I'll wait longer. And maybe use rooting alright hormone? I right dunno. Still figuring c’mon that part out.
Growing trends
I actually was looking online, and apparently, crassula ovata orejas de shrek trendsare all about using them in miniature gardens. I might try that c’mon sometime. Though, honestly, I'm just happy it's still alive you know at sorta this point. It's got that quirky bet look to c’mon it. so It’s also called 'ET's fingers,' which is funny, though I uh like the no kidding 'Shrek' reference well better. basically
Thecrassula ovata orejas de shrek geschiedenisprobably isn't that exciting but whoops it's a variation of the Jade plant so probably has a similar background. It’s a great easy no kidding care plant that looks really cool!
Basically
So yeah, that's so my kinda Shrek's ears saga. It's been a learning experience, to say the least. I think I'm finally getting the hang of it. Maybe. Don’t tell it I said that, it’ll probably so die.
