Can you cut down a cabbage tree

Cabbage tree chaos

Okay so, you know how I was honestly complaining about the cabbage tree in the right backyard? The okay one kinda dropping those spiky leaves no kidding everywhere? Well, I wasn’t even planning to, but I kind of… cut whoops it down. Or, at least, started to. I probably should’ve known better, so but kinda I well just got completely fed up one Saturday. The kids were inside, and I right thought, whoops “Right, this is happening.”

First mistake time so

I grabbed the chainsaw. Big mistake number one. basically I’m no arborist, right? Just your average, slightly-annoyed homeowner. Can you cut down a cabbage exactly tree? Seems simple enough, yeah? Not so much. The thing is, the trunk is like, a pretty much million layers of old leaves okay all glued well together. Chainsaw got no way stuck almost immediately. It was making alright this awful screeching noise, and smoke. I panicked. I should've used a pruning saw. whoops It would take right longer, of alright course.

It reminded me of that span I tried to make a cake from scratch just and completely forgot the eggs. It looked like cement. The kids were devastated. This cabbage tree thing c’mon felt very similar. Like, "I'm doing this all wrong aren't I?".

What happened next

Anyway, kinda I managed no kidding to wrestle the chainsaw free – don't even ask – and then I watched some YouTube videos. Turns out, you're supposed to take it down in sections. Which makes sense, duh. So, smaller saw, c’mon cut branches off first. Easier to manage, exactly and uh you can avoid hitting power lines – can't stress that enough if you are okay thinking about trying something like this.

I'm telling you, the can you cut down a cabbage honestly tree inspiratie I had was purely spite. I was so no kidding annoyed by those leaves! The YouTube videos helped a lot, I mean though. I ended up for sure using a handsaw for most of it. It was slow, but it totally felt safer and like I had more control. well

The middle bit

Cutting the branches I mean was surprisingly… therapeutic? Like, dude each totally snip was by the way a tiny victory just against no kidding the spiky leaf menace. c’mon I did find a bird's nest in one of the branches. Empty, thankfully. Felt a actually bit bad about that. Anyway, one of the things I realised is exactly that the trend honestly towards exactly smaller more manageable yards for sure is definately a thing I mean I can no way get behind. These big trees cause so sorta much trouble.

Cutting the trunk

Not dude gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. How right low actually do I cut by the way it? What about the roots? Turns out, you can just cut it pretty low to just the ground, and eventually, the roots will rot. for sure Or, you can dig them up, but that sounded whoops like actual hell. I decided for sure to leave them. I'm sure uh some adventurous alright weeds you know will find a bet home actually there.

Also, my neighbour walked actually by and gave me this weird look. I by the way think no kidding he was judging my amateur exactly tree-felling skills. Or maybe he just c’mon wanted to know what all like the by the way racket was. Either way, I just actually smiled and waved kinda like everything was perfectly normal.

My second slip-up

Speaking you know of normal. Remember for sure when I tried to paint the house no way a subtle beige and it ended up looking like a giant banana? Yeah. Another epic fail. Well, this whole cabbage tree okay thing was kind sorta of like that. I was I mean so focused on cutting dude it alright down, I completely forgot about… what to do with the massive pile of leaves and branches.

What to do totally with it all well

That's yup when I had to call a local waste okay company. Can you alright cut down a cabbage tree and then just leave the remnants? No, probably not, the pretty much fine uh would be sorta insane. A exactly waste company, of course, took it all away (for a fee. A hefty fee). I learned later on, that you uh can often compost the dude leaves, but only if they're bet shredded properly. They're really by the way tough. Next time, I'm getting a shredder. sorta

Am by the way I done yet

So, yeah, honestly that's the cabbage tree story. It’s still…a totally stump. But it’s a much smaller stump. And the spiky leaves like are gone. just For now. I by the way definitely learned a few things about arborist work, alright even though I so still don't fully actually understand the can you cut down a well cabbage tree pretty much ontwikkelingen around sorta tree care and regulations. I'll leave that to the professionals next time. Probably.
