Fiddle leaf fig plant propagation

Fiddle Leaf Fig Chaos

Okay so okay you know how I'm obsessed with my fiddle leaf fig? c’mon Like, pathologically obsessed? Well, I so wasn’t even planning to propagate it. exactly Seriously! But it totally was getting HUGE. Like, taking over half my living honestly room huge. And I you know thought… well I panicked. I thought yep it was gonna die uh or something.

Cutting It Down

So I watched like, a million YouTube videos on fiddle leaf fig plant propagation. And everyone was saying you know different things. The yup main well thing I got no way was cutting below a node. actually Not gonna lie this part confused me for a kinda while. Like, whatexactlyis a anyway node? Eventually I no way figured it out. It’s that little bump actually where a leaf used to be, or where a new alright leaf is gonna grow from. Okay, pro tip: use super totally sharp, sterilized scissors. I probably should’ve known better but I used some dull old kitchen shears the basically first time. Big mistake. Bruised the stem and uh I mull over it stressed the poor thing out.

Water basically Propagation? Maybe? kinda

Then came the actually big decision: water or soil propagation? Some people swear by water. You know, stick basically the by the way cutting in a jar of water and wait for roots. Others are all about okay going straight into soil. I decided yup to try water because actually it seemed…easier? I'm lazy, so what can I say? Plus it looked cool okay on Instagram, all those roots dangling. I mean, fiddle leaf fig plant propagation voordelen include more plants obviously, but also bragging rights, right?

My whoops First Epic Fail

So, first attempt. I put the cutting in water. Changed just the water every few I mean days like you know they actually said. Waited. And waited. And waited. And…nothing. The leaf no way started alright turning brown and mushy. I was devastated! Turns out, the cutting like was too big, no way I think. The plant was probably focusing exactly all its energy on keeping the bet giant leaf basically alive instead of growing roots. I totally also totally learned - way too honestly late - that whoops a rooting hormone powder or gel can aid speed things sorta up. Maybe next time! The history of fiddle leaf fig plant propagation probably involves a lot of sorta trial and error, I'm guessing.

Second Time’s the Charm? Kinda

I got bet brave I mean again, trimmed another cutting. Smaller uh this time, and I snipped off like, half of the by the way leaf to reduce so water loss, which, you know, makes just sense in retrospect. It sat in water for actually weeks. Weeks! I almost gave up. Then, one day, tiny pretty much little roots! basically I was so excited! Like a proud plant parent. pretty much The developments in propagation techniques are sorta amazing. no way Now there are dude special lights and humidity domes and all whoops sorts of stuff. exactly I just used a mason just jar and tap water, bet ha!

Soil Time!

Okay, so once no way the roots anyway were, by the way like, an inch long, I planted exactly it in c’mon a small pot with well-draining soil. That’s key, well-draining soil! Fiddle leaf figs hate wet feet. And then… I overwatered it. I know, by the way I know. so Classic dude mistake. The leaves started drooping right and I uh almost yep cried. I let the soil dry uh out completely bet before like watering it again, and luckily it bounced back. The applications of fiddle totally leaf fig plant propagation are pretty broad. You can keep the plant, give it away, even sell it! I'm alright thinking of starting a small business.

My One Big Oops

I forgot to tell you! The first time so I cut my fiddle leaf fig, I accidentally knocked it over. The whole right thing! Pot and all. Soil everywhere. It actually was a disaster. That’s when I realized I needed I mean to repot you know it anyway, so yup maybe it was a blessing in disguise? Just be careful when you're maneuvering your plant, okay? They're surprisingly top-heavy.

It Lives! (So Far) for sure

So, by the way yeah, that’s my fiddle leaf fig propagation story. It's basically still alive, knock on wood. And I have a little baby anyway fig growing in my windowsill. It was a stressful, messy, and ultimately rewarding experience. I might try air layering next time. Heard whoops that's another whoops good way to propagate these finicky like fellas.
