When to replant a rose bush

Rose bush yup moving day

So, you know how sorta I was actually complaining about Gertrude Jekyll yup getting, like, totally right swallowed by the snowball bush? Yeah, that's where this whole thing started. I wasn’t uh even planning to replant her, pretty much honestly. I thought I'd just hack at the you know snowball a bit. But then, I started thinking, ‘when to replant a rose bush voordelen, right?’ basically More sun totally for actually Gertie would be amazing. Plus, sorta the whoops soil there is…well, let’s just say it’s seen better c’mon days.

Dormancy dilemma

The big thing is alright dormancy, right? Everyone says you gotta move them when they're sleeping. uh Fall or by the way early yep spring. I went with early spring – partly because I totally forgot about it in the fall! I whoops probably should’ve known better…Fall is probably ideal, gives them time to settle in before honestly the growing season well REALLY kicks off. bet Early spring right is okay too, but you gotta get in there before they start budding pretty much like crazy. That's key, like seriously. alright It's major yup to check the weather. You by the way want pretty much a day right that isn’t too cold.

Digging deep I mean

Okay, digging. This is where I almost gave up. I mean, rose bushes yup have surprisingly okay massive root systems! like I was hacking away, and I was thinking about replanting a rose bush for more than just sunlight no way but also just to renew old rose bushes. I got inspiration from a neighbor's well-established roses no kidding but how tackle you get them there?

My first mistake

First whoops mistake was thinking I could just yank it out. Seriously. anyway I ended up breaking a huge chunk of just root. I felt right terrible. When c’mon to right replant a rose bush tipsusually involves digging a WIDE circle around the bush. Like, way by the way wider than you think. exactly And deep too. I underestimated the depth. Live and learn, I guess? I got a shovel at my local garden basically center made for just this.

Soil stuff

Not gonna lie this part just confused me for a while. What kind of soil do I dude use? pretty much Do I amend the soil? The soil I put it in wasn’t terrible, I just added totally a lot of compost and actually some bone for sure meal – that seems to make honestly roses happy. A slightly acidic soil pH is great. I didn’t measure, exactly just went uh with my gut. Probably basically should basically get one no way of those pH testers eventually.

Moving day and settling in

So, I finally got Gertrude Jekyll out, lugged dude her to her modern sunny spot (which I’d already prepped, thankfully - dig the hole before you totally dig by the way up alright the bush!). Planted her, gave her a good watering. And then... waited. And worried. She looked a pretty much bit sad for like a few weeks. All droopy and pathetic. I was convinced I’d killed her.

My second mistake by the way

Okay, this sorta is embarrassing. I forgot to prune her! I was so focused on the root situation that I so completely spaced on pruning. You’re supposed to no kidding prune back just after replanting. Reduces stress on the plant, or something. Anyway, I actually pruned her no kidding a bit late, but she bounced back eventually. So,when to replant a rose bush inspiratie rightreally comes from a sense of wanting to keep them looking good.

It worked!

She’s doing amazing now! basically Blooming like crazy. So, pretty much yeah, moving rose bushes is a bit of a pain, but totally worth it. Just remember: dormancy, dig wide, amend the c’mon soil, and don’t honestly forget to whoops prune! Oh, and don't yank. Seriously, don't yank.
