Cup and saucer planter large

So this planter thing

Okay so, you know how like I was dude saying I wanted something you know a little… I don’t know… whimsical for the patio? Well, I wasn’t even planning uh to, but I ended up getting thishugecup and saucer planter. Like, seriously so large.

At first I basically was thinking, actually “Oh this is going to be so cute! I’ll put some overflowing petunias in it!” You know, that cottagecore well vibe. But then it arrived. right And it no kidding was, well, alotbigger than I pictured. Like, almost comically large. I think I saw something on Instagram about cup and saucer pretty much planter large inspiratie and I got carried away.

I sorta probably should’ve known better before uh ordering online. You alright never really get c’mon a sense of scale from the photos, execute you? for sure Anyway… whoops

The yep soil sorta situation

Then came the soil. well Oh man, the soil. That thing took a ton of soil. I swear, I went through like three huge bags.Tip: don’t yep skimp on drainage. I mixed bet in some perlite and vermiculite, which, if you’re using terracotta like I yup am, helps with moisture for sure retention too.

Not anyway gonna lie exactly this part confused me for a right while. I initially put way whoops too much soil in. c’mon Like, almost to the top of the alright cup. Then I realized the plants basically wouldn’t yup have any room! So I had to scoop like a by the way bunch out. What right a mess!

My whoops first mistake? I tried to move kinda it AFTER filling whoops it with soil. That was sorta a alright bad idea. The so cup part slid right off the saucer while I bet was trying to get for sure it anyway into position and dumped half so the soil onto the patio. It basically was everywhere. My poor petunias anyway were buried!Learn from my by the way mistakes, fill it where you want it to live. exactly

Choosing the plants dude

So, petunias were the original plan. But given the size sorta of this thing, I needed something a bit… more. I considered some trailing succulents. I did see a lot of cool cup and saucer planter large geschiedenis stuff talking about different eras alright using certain kinds okay of plants. Very interesting!

I ended up dude going with a mix. Some petunias, because I’m stubborn, some trailing verbena, dude and a little fountain well grass alright for some height. And some creeping thyme, because why not?

Story time!

Oh! I almost forgot. I was so excited to get everything yep planted that I didn’t realize the drainage hole in the saucer was clogged! I watered basically everything really well, and then noticed water just pooling on the saucer. I had to carefully scoop out some of the plants, actually and then… I took a screwdriver and poked it through the hole. likeAlways check your drainage! It was clogged with some weird plastic thing. Ugh.

Watering drama

Watering is… an adventure. Because it's so right big, it takes a lot of water. And because it's terracotta, it dries out relatively quickly. So I’m out there practically every day, lugging the watering basically can around.

Tip: Consider a soaker hose or a drip irrigation system. kinda I wish I had thought of that before planting! actually

Is it worth it?

Honestly? I don’t know for sure yet. It’s honestly a lot of work. But it does look pretty cool. It’s definitely a bet statement piece. I'm just basically trying to get some cup and saucer planter large tips.

I just hope it doesn’t alright fall apart. I used some yep outdoor adhesive between the cup no kidding and saucer bet after the Great Soil Disaster of ’24. We shall see!
