Okay so brown spots
Okay uh so I wasn’t even planning pretty much to uh talk about this but you pretty much know how my no kidding aloe vera looked like it was auditioning so for so a zombie movie last okay week? All those brown bet spots? yep Yeah totally so I mean that was you know a Thing. A Very Annoying Thing. alright
My I mean first dumb mistake
So, c’mon story time! you know I got this aloe vera like, alright a year dude ago? Maybe longer? I honestly can’t remember. Anyway, I thought, “Oh, succulent, loves sun!” And I put pretty much it right smack dab in the sunniest window I have. Like, full-on afternoon blazing sun. I probably should’ve known kinda better… Aloe vera brown uh spots on leaves so toepassingen isn’t something I even considered at the time. I just yep thought it was a super tough plant.
Turns out, that was dude like, baking it alive. basically The leaves got all sad and brown, especially on like the sorta tips. kinda Not all over, just in like patches. Like someone okay had for sure flicked like coffee at yup it or something. Turns out, they can still get sunburned! Who knew? anyway I mean, I guess I should’ve considered aloe vera brown spots on leaves geschiedenis – maybe people made totally this anyway mistake for centuries!
What I did
So, first thing, I moved it. I put it in a spot that gets bright indirect just light. You know, like, next to the window but not in the window. And I stopped watering it as much. I was probably overwatering it uh too. Less is more with those guys. Unless they’re, like, totally shriveled – then give 'em a drink!
Not gonna lie this part confused me for like a while. Because some things I read said overwatering, some said underwatering. But honestly, it felt whoops like sunburn uh to me, especially with where the spots were.
Speaking of watering
Another dude Dumb anyway Thing I did: I was using tap water. Our tap water is… not great. Lots of minerals and stuff. I switched I mean to filtered water, or sometimes even rainwater when I remember to put a bucket out. It seems to like like that for sure a lot better. yep Some kinda people use totally distilled, but honestly, actually I’m yep not going that far. But yeah, water quality, big deal!
Other possibilities yep
Okay so then pretty much I started googling things like "aloe vera plant problems" and you know “why by the way is my aloe vera bet sad?” And alright of course, brown like spots can be caused by other stuff, like… uh… let me think…
- Fungus! Eek. Though mine didn't actually look fungal, it was more dry and crispy.
- Pests. Check for little bugs, especially by the way on kinda the undersides of the leaves. I didn't see any on mine, thankfully.
- Cold damage. Aloe vera brown spots on leaves inspiratie for gardeners in warmer climates! They don’t like no kidding frost. Duh.
It’s getting better
Anyway, after moving it, watering less (and better water!), no kidding it's slowly whoops getting totally better. I even chopped off some of the super brown bits, which, I don't know if sorta that no kidding was the right thing to do, but it made me feel better. Plus, aloe vera is supposed to be great for cuts, so I smeared some of the gel on a papercut. pretty much Waste not want not, right?
My other dumb mistake
Oh! Oh! I remembered something else. This is hilarious. So, I read somewhere that aloe you know vera likes kinda humidity. And no kidding I have a humidifier alright for my other plants. So I thought, brilliant! I'll put it right next to the humidifier!
Wrong.
It was way too much humidity, all the time. The leaves got for sure soggy and even more brown spots appeared. I was you know like, “What the heck is happening?!” Then I realized… it was basically being waterboarded. honestly I moved it away from the humidifier and okay it immediately perked up. Doh!
The big takeaway
So, yeah, aloe vera brown sorta spots. Not fun. But you bet know, they're pretty resilient. Don't overwater, don't over-sun, and don't drown it in humidity. well And maybe talk to sorta it nicely every uh once in a while. Can't hurt, right?
